Anita Zengeza is a Zimbabwean singer, guitarist, pianist and composer who currently lives and studies in Barcelona. She performs original songs that speak mainly of the uncertainties and day-to-day situations faced by those living in the diaspora, or those who are searching for calm and tranquillity within an increasingly impersonal society. Her music is a rich blend of sounds and colours that have drawn inspiration from many different cultures and personal experiences.
Anita was born in Botswana (30 March 1991) where she lived for 5 years before moving to Zimbabwe. Her father is Zimbabwean and her mother is Chinese-Malaysian. She grew up in a multi-cultural environment and from an early age she began to study and listen to many different styles of music. At the age of 8 she began to sing and play piano and she also played
violin in the school orchestra for a few years. At 17 she was awarded a music scholarship and she left Zimbabwe and moved to Italy to continue studying classical piano. She also began to play the guitar and to develop her singer-songwriter skills.
One summer she visited Barcelona, and was instantly enchanted by the cultural and musical fusion that she discovered there. She knew it was a city where she could learn about world music, meet musicians and find inspiration. So in 2010 she moved to Barcelona, learned Spanish, and began to take guitar and voice lessons. She is currently studying a degree in Jazz and Modern Music in Conservatori Liceu.
Anita plays with various different musicians in Barcelona, performing a wide and varied repertoire. She composes her own original music (ethnic fusion singer-songwriter music) and enjoys learning and disovering music from all over the world, especially african and latin music.
In August 2013 she released her debut self-titled album 'Anita Zengeza', a musical exploration that shows the creative journey that she has travelled during the past few years.
